October is 3rd Grade Composing Month

Here at Leverett in the 3rd grade music, we have been composing rhythms with quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests and sixteenth notes. On a 4 x 4 grid, students composed their works with a choice of these symbols for rhythm. Then taking their composition further, created a melody using the notes C, D, E, G, A (pentatonic scale) to create a full instrumental piece. We performed our pieces in class for each other to practice both audience skills and performance skills. Here are some samples of the 3rd grade compositions:
