Music in the Fall at Leverett Elementary

There has been lots of music making and enjoyment here at Leverett Elementary School in September and October! From our fabulous Open House to our Peace Day Celebration students have been singing, playing, dancing and creating music in many different ways

Below are the Kindergarten Singing Snails – ask your kindergartener to sing the Snail Song for you and to show you the dance. Next to that are the second grade rhythm compositions which use quarter notes (ta) eighth notes (ti-ti) and quarter rests. Students were asked to compose these rhythms, clap them for a classmate and perform them on an instrument of their choosing.

In the upper levels we are working on reading music notation both rhythmically and melodically. Below you can see an example of the 5th grade song “Hey Ho Nobody Home” from the Middle Ages period. We have also been working on rounds, canons and learning to play this melody on xylophones, metallaphones and xylophones.
